Coats, tiers, and mutations

Coats are the thing Tracks buy. The official fauna pages name a free default for each published animal. Later shop additions sit on top of those defaults.

Defaults

Animal Default coat Tier Cost
Dire Wolf Basal Default Free
Saber-tooth Cat Oak Default Free
Western Horse Bay Dun Default Free
Ancient Bison Plains Default Free
Columbian Mammoth Tule Default Free
Orcutt's Coyote Bandito Default Free on the fauna page
Harington's Pony Hippus Default Free on the fauna page

Coyote and pony defaults are on the official fauna pages for animals that were still announced as upcoming on June 29, 2026. Seeing Bandito or Hippus on the website does not by itself mean the public menu already sells them.

The ladder

The Tracks article lists Tier Default free, Tier 1 at 300, Tier 2 at 500, Tier 3 at 1000, and Tier 4 at 3000. Individual mutation skins break that ladder. Read the number on the coat.

Fandom coat counts were taken before the January 23, 2026 shop update. That update added the tier 2 Juniper Saber, the tier 2 Moulting Ochre Bison, and three gamepass horses: Bay Dun Few Spot Leopard, Grullo Few Spot Leopard, and Bay Few Spot Leopard. A wiki count of thirteen Smilodon coats or eleven bison coats is a floor, not the live total.

Horse patterns also split into light, mid, and dark variants. That is why an older count jumped from 22 horse patterns to 66 worn variants.

Mutations

These are coat conditions, not a combat buff table. No damage bonus is published for them.

  • Leucism: pale coat, blue eyes, pink skin. Dire Wolf and Ancient Bison versions were listed at 395 Tracks. The Smilodon version was staff-only. A leucistic peccary is AI, not a coat you buy, and it pays the large hunt reward.
  • Melanism: dark coat. Dire Wolf and Smilodon were listed at 395 Tracks. A Charcoal variant was staff-only.
  • Pseudomelanism: heavy dark spotting. Smilodon, listed at 3000 Tracks.
  • Erythrism: red or orange cast. Smilodon was listed at 3000 Tracks. The Dire Wolf version was staff-only.
  • Piebald: white patches. Dire Wolf, staff-only in that article.
  • Leopard complex: horse spotting, from scattered white hairs to a light coat with dark spots. The January 2026 few-spot leopard horses are gamepasses, not Track-tier coats.

Staff and exclusive coats, including the early-access Dire Wolf skin from the Ecos EA badge, are not on the public Track ladder. The Winter Solstice event that ran from December 13 to January 10 sold a Snowflake Leopard Western Horse and let daily quests cut limited skins from 3000 Tracks down to 600, with 30 quests unlocking a limited billboard color. That window is over. Do not expect those prices in October unless the shop shows them again.

What to buy first

Buy a coat for the animal you can already survive on. A Tier 4 saber pattern does not fix a missed front-left pounce, and a horse variant does not mark a predator for you. If you are still unlocking bison or the mammoth, keep the default and spend the first hundreds of Tracks only after the badge you want is done.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ecos: La Brea free?

Yes. The official Free to Play video says the experience became free to play on Roblox on November 22, 2025. Open the Ecos Team game page and press play. Older pages that still say the game costs Robux describe an earlier access period.

Which animals can I play right now?

The Roblox game description names Dire Wolf, Saber-tooth Cat, Ancient Bison, Western Horse, and Columbian Mammoth. Horse and Dire Wolf are the animals used in the published unlock steps for the others. Smilodon, Ancient Bison, and Columbian Mammoth have their own badges. Orcutt's Coyote and Harington's Pony were announced on June 29, 2026 as upcoming playables after the emotes update. October 2026 community clips describe them on testing servers, and a public unlock quest for them was not documented.

Are there working codes?

No code string was confirmed as active for October 2026, and a code-entry button was not confirmed in the game. Tracks, the coat currency, are earned by missions, Instincts, survival, and territory or migration play. Do not enter passwords or payment details into any box that claims to be a code field.

How do I unlock the Saber-tooth Cat, Ancient Bison, and Mammoth?

The Saber-tooth Cat badge is earned by hunting and killing a Peccary. The Ancient Bison badge is earned by marking a predator, which the animal guide describes doing as a Western Horse. The Columbian Mammoth badge is earned by completing the mammoth quest: interact with a mammoth skeleton so fossil zones appear, then collect the fossils in those zones. Video pin lists are examples, because players report the marked spots are not one permanent map.

What are Tracks?

Tracks are the currency used to buy animal coats. The published shop ladder is Default free, Tier 1 at 300, Tier 2 at 500, Tier 3 at 1000, and Tier 4 at 3000. Some mutation coats are listed at other prices, including 395. Repeating carnivore and herbivore missions have about a one-hour cooldown. Territory, migration, and the separate daily Instinct board do not use that same hour lock.
