Controls, menu, and the mark-key change

Use the published keyboard list, then rebind from the January 23, 2026 note: new players mark with Q, and herbivore call 2 no longer marks.

Check settings first. The keyboard list below is the published PC chart, and one bind changed after that chart was written.

Marking players

The January 23, 2026 Ecos Team note says marking predators or prey from a distance is easier, herbivore call 2 is no longer used to mark players, and the mark-player key is Q by default for new players. Players who already had binds can keep them. Older pages that say herbivores mark with 2 or U describe the previous control.

Carnivores mark prey. On the published chart that bind is Q, which is also the new default mark key. If both jobs land on one key, use the in-game settings list on your account rather than guessing.

The left panel holds Instincts, bio stats, group, billboard, settings, map, and Tracks. Bio stats show diet, mass, group size, and health for the animal you are playing. You cannot return to the menu while bleeding or in combat. During the 10-second logout you are told to stop if you move. Use that logout when a long survival score matters. Quitting the Roblox app mid-fight is how players lose the session they meant to bank.

Scent, blood, and the map

Scent is B. Pack scent can show in blue, other carnivores in red, and herbivores in green. A secondary attack applies bleed, shown as red droplets that come faster as bleed stacks. The minimap and the on-screen Track counter can be turned off in settings. Territory hexes show on the map unless you disable them. Territory info can show species and short group names.

Mobile and controller play are supported because the game is on Roblox across devices. The public chart does not list every touch button, so use the settings screen on that device. A controller option can keep the cursor visible.

Calls

Community call charts gave horses a whinny, snort, whicker, and blow, and they gave bison a bellow and a bawl. Those charts also tied some alert calls to the old mark crosshair. After January 23, 2026, do not expect herbivore call 2 to mark a predator. Use the mark bind in settings.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ecos: La Brea free?

Yes. The official Free to Play video says the experience became free to play on Roblox on November 22, 2025. Open the Ecos Team game page and press play. Older pages that still say the game costs Robux describe an earlier access period.

Which animals can I play right now?

The Roblox game description names Dire Wolf, Saber-tooth Cat, Ancient Bison, Western Horse, and Columbian Mammoth. Horse and Dire Wolf are the animals used in the published unlock steps for the others. Smilodon, Ancient Bison, and Columbian Mammoth have their own badges. Orcutt's Coyote and Harington's Pony were announced on June 29, 2026 as upcoming playables after the emotes update. October 2026 community clips describe them on testing servers, and a public unlock quest for them was not documented.

Are there working codes?

No code string was confirmed as active for October 2026, and a code-entry button was not confirmed in the game. Tracks, the coat currency, are earned by missions, Instincts, survival, and territory or migration play. Do not enter passwords or payment details into any box that claims to be a code field.

How do I unlock the Saber-tooth Cat, Ancient Bison, and Mammoth?

The Saber-tooth Cat badge is earned by hunting and killing a Peccary. The Ancient Bison badge is earned by marking a predator, which the animal guide describes doing as a Western Horse. The Columbian Mammoth badge is earned by completing the mammoth quest: interact with a mammoth skeleton so fossil zones appear, then collect the fossils in those zones. Video pin lists are examples, because players report the marked spots are not one permanent map.

What are Tracks?

Tracks are the currency used to buy animal coats. The published shop ladder is Default free, Tier 1 at 300, Tier 2 at 500, Tier 3 at 1000, and Tier 4 at 3000. Some mutation coats are listed at other prices, including 395. Repeating carnivore and herbivore missions have about a one-hour cooldown. Territory, migration, and the separate daily Instinct board do not use that same hour lock.
