Unlock Smilodon, Ancient Bison, and the Mammoth

Kill a Peccary for Smilodon, mark a predator as a horse for Ancient Bison, and finish the skeleton-and-fossil quest for the Columbian Mammoth.

Three playables have public Roblox badges with explicit tasks. Western Horse and Dire Wolf are the animals those tasks are done with. Badges are tied to save data, and the badge text warns that deleting the badge can wipe in-game progress.

Saber-tooth Cat

The badge says to hunt and kill a Peccary. The animal page says the same thing: kill a Flat-headed Peccary.

  1. Play a Dire Wolf or, if you already have one, a Smilodon. Carnivore hunt missions accept either.
  2. Find game trails. They are the flashing paths formerly called Peccary trails. Running on them lowers stamina drain, and peccary herds use them.
  3. The official fauna page lists the peccary spawn location as Gametrails.
  4. Get close before you strike. Player clips say a peccary that turns on you can be led onto a rock it does not climb. That is a player tactic, not a badge rule.
  5. Kill the peccary. A comment that says one hit and then dying is enough conflicts with the badge text, so treat a kill as the requirement.
  6. A leucistic, cream-coated peccary is a rare AI variant. The mission table pays 51 to 53 Tracks for it, far above a normal peccary's 5 to 6.

Ancient Bison

The badge says to mark a predator and tells you to read settings for the control. The bison page says you do this as a Western Horse by spotting any predator.

  1. Play a Western Horse.
  2. Open settings and confirm the mark bind. New players after the January 23, 2026 note default to Q. Older charts that say call 2 or U are out of date for new accounts.
  3. Put the marker on a Dire Wolf or Saber-tooth Cat and complete the mark.
  4. You do not have to win the fight. Flee mode, held after a predator is marked, is a separate herbivore mission worth 2 to 3 Tracks.

Columbian Mammoth

The badge says to complete the mammoth quest. Tutorials that show the official game agree on the shape of the quest, not on one fixed pin list.

  1. Find a mammoth skeleton and interact with it. Creators have pointed players to a skeleton near Vulture's Roost, toward Rancho La Brea, or in a cave. Use those as search ideas, then follow the marker the game gives you.
  2. Starting the quest reveals fossil zones. Several 2025 and 2026 tutorials describe eight fossils, one in each zone.
  3. Collect the fossils in the marked zones. A creator in April 2026 said progress is saved and that dying means you interact with a skeleton again to resume. Another player comment said leaving resets it. If your fossils stop being interactable, start or resume at a skeleton before you assume the spots are wrong.
  4. When the quest completes, the mammoth unlocks. The badge does not ask you to visit a restoration tent or a snow field. Guides that add those steps are not backed by the badge or by the tutorials that match it.

Animals that are not a public quest yet

On June 29, 2026, Ecos Team introduced Orcutt's Coyote and Harington's Pony as the two playables then in development, planned for after the emotes update. Their official fauna pages already show a free default coat, Bandito for the coyote and Hippus for the pony. Community clips in October 2026 describe testing servers. Until the live menu shows them, there is no published peccary-style quest to print here.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ecos: La Brea free?

Yes. The official Free to Play video says the experience became free to play on Roblox on November 22, 2025. Open the Ecos Team game page and press play. Older pages that still say the game costs Robux describe an earlier access period.

Which animals can I play right now?

The Roblox game description names Dire Wolf, Saber-tooth Cat, Ancient Bison, Western Horse, and Columbian Mammoth. Horse and Dire Wolf are the animals used in the published unlock steps for the others. Smilodon, Ancient Bison, and Columbian Mammoth have their own badges. Orcutt's Coyote and Harington's Pony were announced on June 29, 2026 as upcoming playables after the emotes update. October 2026 community clips describe them on testing servers, and a public unlock quest for them was not documented.

Are there working codes?

No code string was confirmed as active for October 2026, and a code-entry button was not confirmed in the game. Tracks, the coat currency, are earned by missions, Instincts, survival, and territory or migration play. Do not enter passwords or payment details into any box that claims to be a code field.

How do I unlock the Saber-tooth Cat, Ancient Bison, and Mammoth?

The Saber-tooth Cat badge is earned by hunting and killing a Peccary. The Ancient Bison badge is earned by marking a predator, which the animal guide describes doing as a Western Horse. The Columbian Mammoth badge is earned by completing the mammoth quest: interact with a mammoth skeleton so fossil zones appear, then collect the fossils in those zones. Video pin lists are examples, because players report the marked spots are not one permanent map.

What are Tracks?

Tracks are the currency used to buy animal coats. The published shop ladder is Default free, Tier 1 at 300, Tier 2 at 500, Tier 3 at 1000, and Tier 4 at 3000. Some mutation coats are listed at other prices, including 395. Repeating carnivore and herbivore missions have about a one-hour cooldown. Territory, migration, and the separate daily Instinct board do not use that same hour lock.
